Google launched its AI (Artificial Intelligence ) search mode at the end of July 2025. . . and where Google goes, all other search engines follow!
Sure enough, less than a year later, more than half of all internet searches are now carried out via an AI Agent or LLM (Large Language Model ) such as Chat GPT, Claude or Gemini.

AI, however, appears to 'comprehend' the text of a site. . . and compiles its results based on the 'meaning' of that content.
This is a gross over-simplification, but essentially means that words and phrases likely to be used as search queries by your potential customers MUST be presented in context. For older sites, this can usually be achieved by editing and re-structuring the meta content to meet AI's preconceptions.

So, what is an 'answer engine'?
The clue is in the name! An answer engine is a system designed to directly answer a user's question, instead of providing a list of web pages that might contain the answer. Think of it as getting a concise, specific answer or a direct solution, instead of a map to potentially find that information yourself.
