profiles, pages & posting
• ignore social media at your peril!
Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter (now 'X' ), Instagram, TikTok and many other less well known applications continue to grow in importance as the battle for our on-line attention intensifies.
Links to your website from social media networks can be a hugely valuable source of potential customer visits, if handled correctly.
facebook pages
Not to be confused with public profiles, which are exclusively for the use of private individuals. . . Facebook 'Pages' are profiles specifically designed for businesses, organisations or public figures.
Whilst these profiles may look similar at first glance, they serve very different purposes. As such, each offers its own functionality, and is subject to separate rules and restrictions. For example; 'Pages' do not offer a friends list. Instead, users can 'like' or 'follow' a Page to receive updates in their newsfeed. . . which further underlines the value of regular posting, see the BONUS content below.
BONUS: A note on posting frequency >>Both Google and Facebook (Meta ) are well known to look more favorably on businesses that use their products frequently and, although I offer a monthly posting regime, to be most effective, your Facebook Page and Google Business Profile should be updated at least once a week.
Many businesses post more frequently, and I'll be happy to quote for bi-weekly, even daily, posts; but remember. . . there is nothing to prevent you from posting additional content at any time!
You can, of course, set up and maintain social media profiles yourself, but it can be enormously time consuming, especially if you are having to learn-as-you-go. The equation is simple; if contracting out the management of your social media is less costly than your time, then it must be worth serious consideration. Just call and ask!

On the subject of SEO, the content of Facebook Pages are visible to everyone. . . including search engines!
google business profiles
Although not strictly 'Social Media', when people search for a product or service on Google (as they increasingly do! ), your Google Business Profile will help potential customers discover and contact you.
Why are they so confusing? Introduced in 2005, this local listings feature has been through no fewer than five iterations, the current being a 'Google Business Profile', formerly 'Google my Business'. . . see the chronology in the bonus content below.
BONUS: A history of Google Business Profiles >>Google Business Profiles had their beginnings back in 2004 with 'Google Local'. . . a product which subsequently evolved into 'Google Maps'.
A year later, Google launched 'Google Local Business Center', (which incorporated a free tool for businesses to add or edit their published listings within Google Local ). Google Local then became Google Maps in 2005, at just about the same time that their Local Business Center product was launched.
Confusing, isn't it? Perhaps this calendar of changes will help;
2004: Google Local (now Google Maps )
2005: Google Local Business Center
2009: Google Places
2011: Google+ Local
2014: Google My Business
2021: Google Business Profiles

• a quick guide to google maps
Once you have claimed your listing on Google Maps, you'll be required to verify that you own the business. The most common method is for Google to send a postcard to your declared business address with a verification code. When you receive this card (it can take up to 2 or 3 weeks for postal delivery ), simply email the code to me, and I will complete the verification process on your behalf.
